Access Definitions from Chapter 2

QuestionAnswer
Alphanumerical data Data that includes a combination of numbers and text
AutoNumber A field that automatically adds a unique number to the primary key field for each record in the table
Blank database template An option in Access that creates a database with an empty table in it
Data type A property of a field. It determines the kind of data that can be entered in that field
Default value property A property that enters the same field value in a field every time a new record is added to the table
Description property An optional field property that can be used to describe what information to enter in that field
Design grid A grid that displays field names, data types, and descriptions. When in design view, it appears on the upper half of the screen
Design view A view in which you can add, delete, and make changes to the way that fields store data
Field properties pane A pane that displays field properties. It is located on the bottom half of the screen when in Design View.
Field property A property that describes a field's contents beyond the field's basic data type
Field size property An option sets the character limit of a field
Format property A customizable option that allows you to specify how you want Access to display numbers, dates, and text
Primary key The field that contains a unique field value for each record in the table
Required property A property that specifies whether information must be entered in a record
