Access Definitions from Chapter 2

Alphanumerical data | Data that includes a combination of numbers and text |
AutoNumber | A field that automatically adds a unique number to the primary key field for each record in the table |
Blank database template | An option in Access that creates a database with an empty table in it |
Data type | A property of a field. It determines the kind of data that can be entered in that field |
Default value property | A property that enters the same field value in a field every time a new record is added to the table |
Description property | An optional field property that can be used to describe what information to enter in that field |
Design grid | A grid that displays field names, data types, and descriptions. When in design view, it appears on the upper half of the screen |
Design view | A view in which you can add, delete, and make changes to the way that fields store data |
Field properties pane | A pane that displays field properties. It is located on the bottom half of the screen when in Design View. |
Field property | A property that describes a field's contents beyond the field's basic data type |
Field size property | An option sets the character limit of a field |
Format property | A customizable option that allows you to specify how you want Access to display numbers, dates, and text |
Primary key | The field that contains a unique field value for each record in the table |
Required property | A property that specifies whether information must be entered in a record |
