monitor is a device that connects to a computer and displays information on a screen
bit is the smallest and most basic amount of information that can be used by a computer
hard disk a very large disk that is permanently mounted inside a computer's case and is used for storing everything...all programs, data, settings, etc.
wordprocessor is a computer system or program either specially designed for or capable of creating, editing, and storing text documents, such as, letters, notes, reports, etc.
port is a connector to plug something into
gigabyte or GB 1024 Megabytes
disk drive a device that allows a removable dis to be inserted and read from or written to
output is data or information coming out of or displayed by the computer
input data going into the computer
RAM is the part of a computer's temporary storage that holds a program and opens files while they are in use
pointer is usually an arrow or other type of visual indicator that moves around on the display whenever the mouse is moved
kilobyte or kb is equal to 1024 bytes
binary a numbering system that computers use: it uses only two digits: 1 and 0
hardware the actual parts of a computer system: keyboard, disk drive, printer, monitor, etc.
debugging the act of finding and correcting errors in a computer program
operating system is a collection of programs in he computer that controls how the system runs and processes information
peripheral is an added device, such as a printer modem, or storage system, that works in conjunction with a computer
database a collection of information stored in a computer and designed for quick retrieval, expansion, and updating
byte a unit of storage in a computer equal to 8 bits
program/software is a planned-out sequence of coded instructions and routines that tell a computer what to do and how to do it
megabyte or mg is equal to 1024 kilobytes
CPU the heart of the computer where the actual work is performed
keyboard a set of keys arranged much like that of a typewriter's keys used to enter information into the computer
virus is a malicious computer program that is designed to "infect" a computer by attaching copies to itself into the programs or files stored on a computer's hard drive
spreadsheet is a program that organizes information into rows and columns
kilobyte or KB 1024 bytes
cursor a moveable indicator on the screen showing where text would be inserted
bug an error in a computer's program
modem is a device that converts signals going to and coming from some other type of data carrier
data information of any kind usable by a computer
joystick a hand-held device commonly used to play games
file a collection of related information stored and dealt with as a single unit
