Geography - Section 1 Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Prime Meridian An imaginary line of longitude that runs from the North Pole to the South Pole through Greenwich, England
Parallel Another name for latitude; imaginary lines equal distance from each other
Meridian Another name for longitude; imaginary lines that circle the globe from north to south and run through both the North and South poles
Latitude Imaginary lines that circle the earth parallel to the equator (east-west circles around the globe)
Equator Imaginary line that circles the globe at its widest point, dividing the Earth into two halves
Longitude Imaginary lines that run north and south from one pole to the other
Degree Measurement for latitude and longitude lines
Plain Region of flat land (large area of flat or gently rolling land usually without many trees)
