high-latitude climate | cold climate lies form 60 degrees north to the North Pole and from 60 degrees south to the South Pole |
highland climate | cool and cold climate that varies wi4th elevation (like high up in the mountains) |
tropical climate | warm year rounds extends from the equator to the Tropic of cancer (23 1/2 degrees north) from the equator to the Tropic of Capricorn (23 1/2 degrees south) |
mid-latitude climate | temperate climate (thinks seasons) extend from 23 1/2 degrees north to e460 degrees north and from 23 1/2 degrees south to 60 degrees south |
prevailing wind | movements of air that travel around the earth in a typical pattern. |
El Nino | Caused by the combination of temperarture wind and water. |
El nino cent. | formed when cold winds from the norht are week. Pacific oceean gets warmer. Occurs every 3 weeks. |
La nina | Eastern winds become strong and the opposite of El nino occurs-Pacific gets colder |
dry climate | dry to partially dry areas with little to no rain; temperaters can range from cold to very oht. |
typhoon | name for a hurricanae. |
tornado | funnel-shaped windstorm; sometimes forms during a thunderstorm. |
tropics | low attitude region between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Cancer. |
mountain 2 | land with steep sides that rise shrply (1,000 ft. or more) from surrounding land |
mountain range 2 | a series of connected mountains. |
monsoon | seasonal wind that blows over a continent for a long period of time. |
weather | unpredicteble changes in the air that take place in a short period of time. |
peninsula 2 | body of lang jutting out into that take place in a short period of time. |
plain 2 | area of low land at low elevation; covered with grass. |
plateau 2 | flat or rolling land at high elevation usually 300-3,000 ft. high. |
physical feature 2 | characteristics of a place-naturally occuring like landforms, climate, resources. |
river 2 | large natural stream of water that runs through land. |
sea 2 | large body of water partially or competely surrounded by land. |
strait 2 | narrow stretch of water joining two larger bodies of water. |
ocean 2 | one of the four major bodies of salt water that surrounded the continents. |
volcano 2 | mountain created as liquid rock and ash erupt from inside the earth |
valley 2 | area of lowland between hills and mountains. |
