Foy Geography Vocab

climate the average weather conditions in a certain area over a long period of time
compass an instrument that uses the earth's magnetic field to indicate direction
environment all the living and nonliving things that affect life in an area
geography the study of Earth's physical and cultural features
landforms the natural features of the land's surface
region an area with one or more features that make it different from surrounding areas
resources the materials found on Earth that people need and value
topography the shape and elevation of land in a region
latitude called parallels, these imaginary lines measure distance north and south of the equator
equator imaginary line that circles the globe halfway between the North and South Poles
longitude called meridians, these imaginary lines pass through the poles
prime meridian an imaginary line that runs through Greenwich, England and represents 0 degrees longitude
hemispheres The earth is divided into four hemispheres: north, south, east, and west. The equator divides the north and south hemisphere and the prime meridian divides the east and west hemisphere.
