Question | Answer |
---|---|
Climate Change | Can be positive or negative. Can be temporary or permanent. Any long-term significant change in the expected patterns of average weather of a specific region over an appropriately significant period of time. |
Culture | Can be derived by religion, language, diet, customs, or economic development. |
Subculture | A group of people with a culture (whether distinct or hidden) which differentiates them from the larger culture to which they belong |
Environmental Impact | An assessment of the possible impact—positive or negative—that a proposed project may have on the natural environment |
Deforestation | The destruction of large areas of forest depletes habitats of many species of animals, leads to massive erosion problems may contribute to poor air quality. |
Global Warming | The belief that human use of fossil fuels, coal, oil, nat gas, and gasoline has increased the levels of carbon dioxide in the lower atmosphere causing a greenhouse effect. Prolonged warming could bring devastating climate changes. |
Energy Developement | Hydrocarbons (petroleum) can cause global warming, hydroelectric projects alter terrain, renewable energy cause little to no damage and petroleum can cause overpopulation and development. |
Population Growth | Massive influence on environment. Lead to increased farming, construction, mining, and energy development, and clearing land for development. Factors: Birth rate, death rate, replacement rate, migration. |
Renewable resources | Regenerate through natural processes. Are only sustainable when harvested BELOW sustainability curve. Geothermal, wind, solar power |
Non-renewable resources | Minerals and petroleum. Cannot be grown, made, or regenerated. |
