Absolute Location | the precise or exact location of a place |
Relative Location | describing where something is in relation to its environment and surroundings |
Latitude | lines running from west to east that measure distances north and south of the Equator |
Longitude | lines running from north to south that measure distances west and east of the Prime Meridian |
Place | the human, physical, and cultural characteristics of a location |
Human-Environmental Interaction | relates to how humans shape and change their environment and how the environment affects people |
Movement | travel of people, goods, and ideas from one location to another |
Push Factors | factors that drive people out of a place |
Pull Factors | factors that draw people into a place |
Globalization | the development of an increasingly integrated global economy marked especially by free trade, free flow of capital, and the tapping of cheaper foreign labor markets |
Region | an area of land with common features |
Formal Region | a region that rely on official borders for division |
Functional Region | a region that consists of a center point that impacts a surrounding area |
Perceptual Region | a region that is defined by common characteristics and opinions of a place |
Physical Map | a map that shows the physical features of an area |
Road Map | a map that shows major highways, airports, cities, railroad tracks, and local points of interest |
Political Map | a map that shows borders of cities, states, and countries |
Climate Map | a map that shows information about a place's climate |
Topographic Map | a map that shows contour lines to show an area's change in elevation |
Economic Map | a map that shows an area's economic activities or different types of resources |
Thematic Map | a map that shows a particular theme or special topic |
Cartogram | a type of thematic map that uses size to illustrate its topic |
