Crude Birth Rate (CBR)
Total number of live births in a year for every 1,000 people alive in the society.
Population Doubling Time
The number of years needed to double a population, assuming the current rate of natural increase.
Total Fertility Rate (TFR)
The average number of children a woman will have throughout her childbearing years. Ages 15-49
Arithmetic density
Total population divided by total land area.
Natural Increase Rate (NIR)
The difference between the number of births and the number of deaths recorded over a period. CBR-CDR
Population Density
The number of people in that country divided by the area in square kilometers or miles.
Zero Population Growth (ZPG)
When CBR is about equal to CDR. NIR is reaching zero. Often applied to Stage 4 counties.
Life Expectancy
Average number of years a newborn infant can expect to live at current mortality levels.
Physiological Density
Total population divided by arable (farmable) land.
Maternal Mortality Rate
The number of maternal deaths per 100,000 live births (due to complications of pregnancy or childbirth).
