Chronic Constipation   result of environmental or psychological factors or a combonation of the two factors

Newborn Constipation   if the first meconium stool does not pass with in 24 to 36 hours, assess for intestinal atresis or stenosis

Infant Constipation   organic causes: Hirschsprung Disease (HD), hypothyroidism, strictures related to dietary practices, withheld due to pain on defecation. Tx with food, fluid and fiber

Childhood/Adolescent Constipation   results due to environmental changes or normal development when a child begins to attain control over bodily functions, stress, changes in toileting patterns, deliberately withheld due to pain of defecation

Nursing Care Management of Constipation   assess bowel movements, diet, events related to onset, drugs, consistency, color, frequency and other characteristics of the stool
