Articles of Confederation | First US government. Purposefully made to limit the power of the central government. It was too weak and gave states too much power.

Constitutional Convention | Meeting to write a new constitution to create a stronger central government.

The Great Compromise | An agreement on representation between the Virginia Plan and the New Jersey Plan. It created a two house-legislation.

The 3/5 Compromise | An agreement that enslaved people will count towards 3/5 of the state population for representation in Congress.

||||
Federalism | A strong central government that shares power with state governments.
๐
|
||||
Republic | A Representative Democracy. Government is made up of representatives elected by the people.

||||
Federalists | In support of the new Constitution and the creation of a strong national government.
๐

||||
Anti-Federalists | Against the new Constitution. Believes the constitution has too much power of the states and does not protect people's rights.

||||
Constitution | Basic set of principles & laws that states the powers and duties of of the government. US Constitution created a strong, federal government.
