| Assumption Risk | Voluntarily and knowingly assumes the risk of an activity through an expressed or implied agreement, but does not forgive a person of reckless conduct. |
| Battery | The unlawful touching of an individual without consent. |
| Ethics | Moral: a set of principles or values that influences behavior. |
| Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) | A federal regulation establishing national standards for health care information to protect personal health information. |
| Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) | Protects the privacy of student education records. |
| Liability | Legal responsibility to perform duties in a reasonable and prudent manner. |
| Malpractice | Professional misconduct or lack of professional skill that results in damage to the patient. |
| Negligence | The failure to give reasonable care or do what another prudent person with similar experiences, knowledge, and background would have done under the same or similar circumstances. |
| Risk Management | Reduction of the potential of injury. |
| Standard of Care | The degree of care, skill, and diligence an equally qualified care giver in the profession would provide in similar circumstances. |
| Tort | A wrongful act resulting in injury to another's person, property, or reputation, for which the injured party is entitled to seek competition. |
