| Term | Definition |
| Crust | The outside layer of the earth and is made up of solid rock |
| Mantle | The layer below the crust. It is made up of molten (melted) rock called magma. |
| Core | Outer and inner. It is at the centre of the earth. Temperatures are highest here. |
| Plate Boundary | The place where two plates meet. |
| Plate Tectonics | The study of plates and how they move. |
| Continental Drift | The continents are very slowly moving apart. |
| Pangaea | All the continents were once joined together and formed a 'super continent'. |
| Vent | Narrow tube in the crust where the magma travels through. |
| Active volcano | Still erupts regularly. |
| Dormant | Hasn't erupted in a long time but still could. |
| Extinct | Will not erupt again. |
