| Population Density | The number of people in that country divided by the area in square kilometers or miles. |
| Distribution | How people are spread across a specific area (clustered, random, uniform). |
| Physiological Density | Total population divided by arable (farmable) land. |
| Agricultural Density | Number of farmers divided by amount of arable (farmable) land. |
| Arithmetic density | Total population divided by total land area. |
| Carrying Capacity | The amount of people that the location can sustain without depletion or loss of the natural resources. |
| Crude Birth Rate (CBR) | Total number of live births in a year for every 1,000 people alive in the society. |
| Crude Death Rate (CDR) | Total number of deaths in a year for every 1,000 people alive in the society. |
| Natural Increase Rate (NIR) | The difference between the number of births and the number of deaths recorded over a period. CBR-CDR |
| Total Fertility Rate (TFR) | The average number of children a woman will have throughout her childbearing years. Ages 15-49 |
| Zero Population Growth (ZPG) | When CBR is about equal to CDR. NIR is reaching zero. Often applied to Stage 4 counties. |
| Maternal Mortality Rate | The number of maternal deaths per 100,000 live births (due to complications of pregnancy or childbirth). |
| Life Expectancy | Average number of years a newborn infant can expect to live at current mortality levels. |
| Population Doubling Time | The number of years needed to double a population, assuming the current rate of natural increase. |
