| Numerical Order | Procedure |
| 1 Procedure | Press the skin puncture site with a clean gauze sponge until the bleeding stops. |
| 2 After the Procedure: Care of the Heel | Elevate the heel slightly above the level of the body, and ensure that bleeding has stopped. |
| 3 After the Procedure: Care of the Heel | Check the infant's heel puncture site for bleeding or inflammation. |
| 4 Clean Up | Dispose of sharp device in sharps container. |
| 5 Clean Up | Check the infant's bed for any leftover supplies. |
| 6 Clean Up | Discard bloody and contaminated items in biohazard waste container. |
| 7 Clean Up | Dispose gloves/PPE not from isolation in regular trash. |
| 8 Clean Up | Remove gloves Wash hands |
| 9 Clean Up | Correctly complete all the information on the screening card so that follow up can be done if the results are abnormal. |
| 10 Clean Up | Place the screening card in an appropriate envelope, and send it to the laboratory within 24 hours. |
