Describe the Chieftains sound? Performances of Irish tunes,dances and songs. Collaborated with many differnt musicians and blended trad music with chinese, bluegrass, pop and rock. The Long black veil features mick jagger, sting, tom jones, van morrison.
Describe the Dubliners sound? Urban songs, some with political theme, Irish songs, Scottish songs, strong forceful singing, use of guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, tin whistle, concertina. Also played arrangements of O' Carolan tunes.
Describe the Clancy Brothers sound? Very important to the 'Ballad Boom'. Melody sung by lead singer, backing harmonies and guitar. First appeared on Ed Sullivan show in US 1961. Known for their aran sweaters, 'ill tell me ma', 'The Jug of punch"
Describe Planxty's sound? Fresh new sound in the 70"s. Blend of Irish, folk and rock n roll. Irish dance and harp tunes by O Carolan. Mandolin, bouzouki, uillean pipes, vocals, bodhran, synthesizer. Christy Moore, Donal Lunny, Liam O' Flynn, Andy Irvine. 'Tabhair dom do lamh"
Who were the Bothy Band? A band formed in the 70's. Many of their songs from Donegal. Strong harmonies, rock n roll rhythms. Matt Molloy- flute, Paddy Keenan- uillean pipes, Triona Ni Dhomhnaill- vocals, Tony Mc Mahon- accordian
Who were Moving Hearts? Band popular in early 80's. Blend of jazz, rock, folk. Saxophone, Donal Lunny- Bouzouki, synthesiser, Christy Moore- vocals, bodhran, guitar, Davey Spillane - pipes
Who were De Danann? Group formed in Galway. 2 main members Frankie Gavin- fiddle, Alec Finn- bouzouki. Also accordian, bodhran, vocals. Blended Irish music and pop music. Eg ,Hibernian Rhapsody, a trad arrangement of Queens 'Bohemain Rhapsody' + a cover of 'Hey Jude' Beatles
