Ground Bass A repeated pattern in the bass line
Suite A dance
Passacaglia A dance based on a ground bass, usually 3 beats in a bar
Overture The orchestral introduction to an opera often featuring the best tunes in the opera.
Aria Solo song in an Opera or Oratorio
Recitative Sing-speech connecting Arias. Not much accompaniment
Oratorio Similar to Opera, but religious
Trill The rapid alternation of two tones either a whole or half tone apart.
Mordent An ornament which sounds the main note, the note above and then the main note again.
Acciaccatura (Short) Another name for the grace note - very short decorative note.
