What does reproduce mean? to make more living things
What are 3 characteristics of living things? grow and develop, reproduce, interact with the things around them
What is an environment? all the nonliving things that surround a living thing
What is an ecosystem? all the living and nonliving things in one area
What is a habitat? a place where a living thing has the food, water, and shelter that it needs to live
What is a population? all of the living things of one kind that live in one area
What is a community? includes all the living things in one area
What are the 3 groups of living things? producers, consumers, decomposers
What is the 1st living thing in a food chain? sun
What is a producer? makes its own food and gets its energy directly from the sun
What is an example of a producer? plants
What is a consumer? living thing that gets its energy by eating other living things
What is an example of a consumer? animals or people
What is a decomposer? helps break down dead things and wastes
What is an example of a decomposer? earthworms
What is an herbivore? consumers that only eat plants
What is an omnivore? consumers that eat both plants and animals
What is a carnivore? consumer that only eats meat
What is a predator? any animal that hunts and eats other animals
What is a prey? the animals that a predator hunts
What is a food chain? movement of energy from one living thing to another living thing
What is a food web? several food chains linked together
