| What is an element? | a substance that cannot be broken down into simpler substances. |
| What is an atom? | the smallest particle of an element. |
| What is a compound? | a substance that is made from two or more simpler substances and can be broken down into those simpler substances. |
| What are heterogeneous mixtures? | a type of mixture in which the parts of the mixture are noticeably different from one another. |
| What are homogenous mixtures? | a type of mixture in which the substances are so evenly distributed that it is difficult to distinguish one substance in the mixture from another. |
| What ia a solution? | a mixture that forms when substances disslove and form a homogeneous mixture. |
| What is a suspension? | a heterogenous mixture that spreates into layers over time. |
| what is a colloid? | a mixture that contains some particles in a solution and the larger particles in a suspension |

| What is distillation? | a process that separates the substances in a solution based on their boiling points |
| What is a physical change? | occurs when some of the properties of a material change, but the substance in the material remain the same |

| What is flammability? | a material's ability to burn in the presence of oxygen |
| What is reactivity? | The property that describes how readily a substance combines chemically with outher substances |
| What is a chemical change? | Occurs when a substance reacts and forms one or more new substances |
