ghetto a neighborhood where poor city dwellers live in crowded, dirty, and dangerous conditions
tenement a poorly constructed and maintained apartment building located in a ghetto
political machine a group of city leaders who take advantage or poor, uneducated city residents by doing favors for individuals while stealing tax dollars and failing to provide city services required of them
