TermMeaning/Definition
Epiphany A celebration of when the Magi (three wise men) came to Jesus when he was born and gave him gifts.
Jesus’ Ministry The three year Jesus spent spreading the word of God, healing, performing miracles, teaching and spending time with His Apostles.
Resurrection The rising of Jesus from the dead on the third day after his Death on the Cross—the core of our faith.
Annunciation The announcement by the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary that God wanted her to be the mother of the Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mystery A truth about God and his saving plan that is beyond human understanding.
Paschal Mystery The redemptive Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ through which Jesus not only liberated us from sin, but also gave us new life through his Resurrection.
Paradox A figure of speech or statement that seems contradictory but actually contains a hidden truth.
Blasphemy A sin against God’s dignity (where either you place God at your level or you put yourself at His level).
Presentation in the Temple A ritual observed by Jewish families where they bring their firstborn son to the Temple with an offering. Joseph, Mary, and Joseph brought Jesus and met Simeon.
Docetism A first-century heresy (false teaching) that taught that Jesus only seemed to be human.
Incarnation The teaching that God became flesh (human) through the birth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God and the child of the Virgin Mary.
Heresy A false teaching about God or his Church.
Nativity The birth in Bethlehem of Jesus Christ, the Son of God and of the Virgin Mary.
Transfiguration The glorious transformation of Jesus, on a mountain top, that showed his identity as God for Peter, James, and John.
Jesus A word that means “Yahweh is salvation” or “savior.”
