The Battle of Yorktown Cornwallis sent British troops to attack Charlottesville. The Americans did not have enough troops for a major battle. Then, Cornwallis disregarded an order to go to New York, and instead went to Pennsylvania. Washington saw an opportunity to trap him

French help at Yorktown a French fleet under Admiral de Grasse was heading toward Virginia. they closed the trap from the water so Cornwallis was trapped by land and sea
Terms of the Treaty of Paris (1783) British recognized the united states as an independent nation and the Americans asked the state legislatures to pay Loyalists for property they had lost in the war.
Borders of independent nation Spain gets Florida, Atlantic Ocean Eastern border and the Mississippi River was the Western border. The British kept Canada, and the Great Lakes was the Southern border.
