Resp Alkalosis;

respiratory alkalosis

What causes respiratory alkalosis? hyperventilation, hypoxemia, acute pain, anxiety/psych distress, sobbing, alcohol withdrawal, improper stimulation of brainstem
Respiratory alkalosis s/s paresthesias, carpal/pedal spasm, CNS and PNS excitability, confusion (inc pH in brain fluid), cerebral vasoconstriction, dec calcium 0 inc exicitability
How does compensation go about? Renals decrease acid excretion, renals may not even get a chance to respond to alkalosis
Chvostek’s sign tetany developing in the face, usually a cause of hypocalcemia
Trosseau’s sign tetany, sign of late hypocalcemia, bird hand
Care and interventions of alkalosis pt reduce stress, parper bag bratheing, dec rate of ventilator, prevent H, K, Ca, Cl loss, restor fluid, monitor, provide safety, stop alkalosis-causing treatments, drug therapy, PREVENTION OF FALLS
