assisted living facility provides housing, personal care, supportive services, health care, and social activities in a home-like setting
board and care home a facility that provides custodial care to a few independent residents, often in a home setting; no licensed nurse is required; also called a residential care facility.
case management a method of organizing nursing care. a case mananger an RN coordinates the person's care from admission through discharge and into the home setting.
chronic illness an illness, slow or gradual in onset, for which there is no known cure. the illness can be controled and complications prevented
deconditioning the process of becoming weak from illness or lack of exercise.
functional nursing a method of organizing nursing care; nursing staff perform specific tasks for all assigned residents
group insurance an insurance plan bought by a group for individuals
hospice a health care agency or program

nursing assistant a person who gives basic nursing care under the supervision of a nurse;
nursing center a ficility that provides health care survices to residents who require regular of continuous care; licensed nursing staff is required
nursing team the individuals involved in providing nursing care; RNs LPNs and nursing assistants
ombudsman an advocate; someone who supports or promotes the needs and interests of another person
omnibus budget reconciliation act of 1987 (OBRA) a federal law concerned with the quality of life,health,and safety of residents
primary nursing a method of organizing nursing care; a nurse is resopnsible for the total care of specific resident on a 24 hour basis
private insurance insurance bought by individuals and families
registered nurse (RN) an individual who has studied nursing for 2 3 or 4 years and who has passed a licensing test for RN's
residential care facility a board and care home
skilled nursing facility (SNF) a facility that provides nursing care for residents who need comples care but do not need hospital services; may be a part of a nursing center or a hospital
supportive care care given on a 24 hour basis that meets a person's basic needs
team nursing a method of organizing nursing care; assigns other nurses and nursing assistants to care for certain residents
