KDA- Bed Making
Term | Meaning |
---|---|
Closed Bed | bed made with bedspread in place. |
Decubitus Ulcers | tissue breakdown resulting from pressure or reduced blood flow (often called pressure sores or bed sores). |
Open Bed | bed made with top sheet folded so as to give patient easy entrance. |
Occupied Bed | one with a patient in it. |
Postoperative Bed | bed made with top sheet folded legthwise and positioned to one side, allowing thransfer of the patient from the surgical stretcher to the bed without unnecessary movement. |
Fanfold | method of arranging bed linens so that the covers and bedspread are folded at the foot of the bed out of the way. |
Draw sheet | small sheet made of plastic, rubber, or cotton placed across the middle of the bed to cover and pretect the bottom sheet and assist in moving the patient. |
Steps for Closed Empty Bed | Bottom sheet: Placement, tuck top, miter top corner, tuck sides. Top Sheet: placement, tuck bottom, miter bottom corners, cuff top. |
Steps for Open Empty Bed | Bottom Sheet: Placement, tuck in the top, miter the top corner, tuck in the side. Top Sheet: Placement, fanfold to the foot of the bed, Fold sheet back toward head of bed, smooth the hanging sheets on each side neatly into the folds you have made. |
Steps for Surgical Bed | Bottom Sheet: Placement, Tuck in the top, miter the top corner, tuck in the sides. Top Sheet: Placement, fold the bedding even with the foot of the mattress, fold blanket over the cuff, fanfold bedding to the edge, and place pillow at headboard. |
Steps for Occupied Bed | Raise and lock side rails, fold and tuck bottom sheet against the patient's back, tuck folds of clean sheet against the patienet's back below the plastic draw sheet, miter the corner, pull sheets tight and miter the corner, place pillow under the patient. |
