What is the Heart? The heart is the pump that circulates the blood through the lungs and into all parts of the body.
What are the Blood Vessels? There are two important blood vessels:Artery and veins.The artery is a blood vessel that carries oxygenated blood away from the heart.The veins are blood vessels that carry blood from parts of the body back to the heart.
Why is the blood called a transportation system? The blood is called a transportation system because it performs specific jobs.The blood carries oxygen from the lungs to the cells. The blood absorbs nutrients from the small intestine and carries them to the cells.
What is circulation? Circulation is the continuous movement of blood through the heart and blood vessels to all parts of the body.
What kind of jobs do blood & blood vessels perform? The blood helps maintain the fluid balance of the body by helping to move the sodium and potassium into and out of body cells.
What is a plasma? What does it contain? The plasma is the liquid portion of the heart.The plasma contains red blood cells,white blood cells, and platelets. Platelets help to stop bleeding when the body is injured by forming clots at the site of the injury.
How are the Arteries organized to do its job? The arteries branch into a vast network throughout the body.As they branch out,the blood vessels become smaller and smaller until they are thin.The arteries carry blood away from the heart.All arteries(except the pulmonary artery)carry oxygenated blood.
