Peace Corps Federal program established to send volunteers to help developing nations.
Bay of Pigs Invasion Failed invasion of Cuba by a group of anti-Castro forces in 1961.
Fidel Castro Revolutionary leader who took control of Cuba in 1959; ally of Soviet Union through the 1980s.
Berlin Wall Barrier built by the East German government to seperate Communist and non-Communist Berlin.
Cuban Missle Crisis 1962 crisis that arose between the United States and the Soviet Union over a Soviet attempt to deploy nuclear missiles in Cuba.
Nikita Khrushchev Soviet leader from 1953 to 1964; opposed President Kennedy in the Cuban Missle Crisis.
Limited Test Ban Treaty 1963 treaty in which the United States and the Soviet Union agreed not to test nuclear weapons above the ground.
Warren Commission Commission, headed by Cheif Justice Earl Warren, that investigated the assassination of President Kennedy.
Lyndon B. Johnson 36th president; expanded social assistance with his Great Society program; increased US commitment during Vietnam War.
Great Society President Lyndon Johnson's proposals for aid to public education voting rights, conservation and beautification projects, medical care for the elderly, and elimination of poverty.
VISTA Volunteers in Service to America- Federal program to send volunteers to help people in poor communities.
Cheif Justice Earl Warren Created the Warren Commission documents investigating President Kennedy's assassignation.
