9. CPI (Committee on Public Info) | government agency created during WWI to encourage Americans to support the war |
10. conscientious objector | person who moral or religious beliefs forbid him or her to fight in wars |
11. Espionage Act | act passed by Congress in 1917 enacting severe penalties for anyone engaged in disloyal or treasonable activities |
12. Great Migration | movement of African Americans in the 20th century from the rural South to the industrial North |
13. convoy | group of merchant ships sailing together, protected by warships |
