Basketball

The basics of Basketball

Who created basketball?Dr. Luther Halsey Gulick, Jr.
When was basketball created? It was created in 1891.
When was the first game played? The first official basketball game was played in the YMCA gymnasium, on 20th January 1892, with nine players.
What is a travel in basketball? A travel is when you pick the ball up and stop your dribble and walk more then two steps with the ball.
what is a double dribble in basketball? A double dribble is when you use two hands to dribble the ball or you pick up the ball and end your dribble and dribble again.
What are basketballs made of? Basketbalss are made with rubber bladders, generally wrapped in layers of fiber and then covered with a tacky surface made of leather (traditional), rubber, or a synthetic composite.
How many people are on the floor at once for one team? There are five people on the floor for one team at a time. All together there would be nine people on the floor at once.
How many referees are there on the floor for a basketball game? There is usually two reffs on the floor at once but sometimes you see three.
What are the positions on the floor? There are five positions on the floor for the five players. There is the center, they are usually the tallest on the team, then there are two guards, who bring the ball up the court, and then you have two forwards.
What is a three pointer? There is an area on the floor where you can shoot from that is considered the three point line. It is a line that is farhter back then the key and then free throw line.
How far away is the three point line from the backboard? The three point line is 6.25 meters (20 ft 6 in) from the backboard.
What is a free throw? A free throw is 2, sometimes 3, shots that you get to take when you are fowled while you have the ball about to shoot. You get to stand at a designated line to shoot.
