Term | Definition |

Major Depressive Disorder | Depressed mood or loss of interest in pleasurable activities. |
Dysthymia | Similar to, but more mild than MDD. Feeling “down in the dumps.” |
Seasonal Affective Disorder | type of depression that occurs at a certain time of the year, usually in the winter. |
Bipolar I | associated with mood swings that range from the lows of depression to the highs of mania |
Bipolar II | Major depression with bouts of hypomania |
Cyclothymia | a mild form of bipolar disorder with hypomania and depressed mood |
What does a manic patient need? | Fluids, food, rest (in that order) |
Vagus Nerve Stimulation | large and sustained antidepressant effect |
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation | causes depolarization or hyperpolarization of neurons in the brain |
