Electron Shell | a grouping of electrons surrounding the nucleus of an atom |
Proton | Particle of an atom that is in the nucleus and has a positive charge |
Neutron | Particle of an atom that is in the nucleus and gives no charge |
Electron | particle of an atom that si outside of the nucleus and gives a negative charge |
Atomic Number | Amount of atoms that are in an element |
Atomic Mass | The mass of a an atom |
Valence Electrons | The amount of the outermost electrons |
Metal | A solid material that is a good conductor,is ductile, and is malleable |
Non-metal | A material that is brittle/dull, a bad cunductor, and not solid |
Metalloid | A material that has the characteristics of both metals and non-metals |
Group | A collumn of elements on the periodic table that have the same number of valence electrons and have similar characteristics |
Periods | A collumn of elements on the periodic table that have the same number of electron shells |
Transition Elements | Any set of a metal element that is occupying a central block |
Represenative Elements | Elements that don't show valence variables |
Ion | An atom or a molecule with a net charge due to the loss or gain of one or more electrons |
Isotope | An element where the number of neutrons is decreased or increased |
