Recombinant DNA | DNA that contains genes from multiple organisms |
Transgenic | An organism that has one or more genes from another organism inserted into its genome |
Gene sequencing | Determining the order of DNA nucleotides in genes |
Human Genome Project | A map and sequence of human genetic coding and identifying all the genes in the sequence |
Genetic screening | Testing a person's DNA to determine their risk of having or passing a long a genetic disorder |
Gene therapy | The replacement, addition, or deletion of defective genes into a genome to treat a disease |
Restriction enzyme | Enzymes that cut DNA at specific nucleotide sequences |
Gel electrophoresis | Using an electrical current to separate DNA fragments from each other by size |
Bioinformatics | Using computer databases to organize and analyze biological data |
Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) | A chain reaction that quickly produces millions of copies of DNA sequences |
Primer | A short strand of DNA that acts as a starting point for a new strand |
