Why do we study history? Helps us understand individuals, ppl + society; provides moral understanding + identity; ability to understand + synthesize material
Why study Jewish history? To understand where Jewish community came from + roots; better understand our relationship to State of Israel; best assess relationship of Jews + Palestinians to land; where we come from/how that contributes to where we are now
How do historians study history? Study sources (examine evidence + draw conclusions) + ask questions
What kind of questions to historians ask? Cause of past events; effects of past events; changes; what stayed the same; how ppl in past view world; how past helps us make sense of present
