knowledge | brings us to learn more about God and his plan, and leads us to wisdom and understanding |
piety (reverence) | makes it possible to love and respect all that god has created |
fear of the lord (wonder and awe) | helps us to see God's presence and love filling all creation |
**Three Sacraments of Christian Initiation | Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation |
Confirmation | leads us to full initiation into the church;usually celebrated with a mass including Liturgy of the Word,Presentation of Candidates,Homily,Renewal of Baptismal Promises,Laying on of Hands,Anointing with Chrism,Prayer of Faithful, Liturgy of Eucharist |
Renewal of Baptismal Promises | the candidates stand and renew their baptismal promises. They answer each of the questions about their belief in the Blessed Trinity and the Church with the words "I do." |
advocate | someone who intercedes on our behalf, someone who speaks for us, someone who even defends us. And advocate comforts and teaches. The Holy Spirit is our Advocate. |
"the Spirit of truth" | Jesus called the Holy Spirit this. The Holy Spirit guides us as we learn the truths of our faith, the truths that JEsus and the Church teach us. |
**Laying on of Hands | The bishop and priest celebrating Confirmation extend their hands over the whole group of candidates which reminds us of the laying on of hands by the Apostles and the early Church |
Anointing with Sacred Chrism | Sponsor stands near the candidate & places a hand of the candidate's shoulder.this shows the support and guidance of the sponsor & the ongoing care of the whole parish for those who are being confirmed.Priest says be sealed with Gift of the Holy Spirit. |
Prayer of the Faithful | We remember the newly confirmed, their families and sponsors |
Liturgy of the Eucharist | newly confirmed join with the assembled to continue to worship God by sharing in the gift of Jesus in the Eucharist |
**fruits of the Holy Spirit | love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control |
**What is the importance of preparing for Confirmation? | Because this sacrament leads us to full initiation into the Church |
