In the 1950s and 1960s gym members were what? Predominantly men training for specific goals such as size, strength(explosive or not), or all combined.
Chronic diseases which account for 70% of the US are preventable with what? Good lifestyle choices such as exercising.
Obesity is a BMI >30 or 30 lbs overweight, what is the desired BMI for adults`? Between 18.5 and 24.9
Overweight is a BMI 25-29.9 or 25-30 lbs overweight, and is associated with what? Cardiovascular disease(heart), osteoarthritis(degeneration of cartilage and bone), and decreased quality of life.
Why should you start kids in sports early? Can help them make it a habit for the rest of their life.
Healthy cholesterol is less then 200 mg/dL, what is a borderline for high cholesterol? Between 200 and 239 mg/dL.
What is Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus? Starts in childhood, caused by the pancreas not making insulin, causing high blood sugar.
What is Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus? AKA adult onset, associated with obesity, causes Insulin Resistance in cells, - glucose.
Lack of physical activity is a contributor to 7 chronic diseases, what is recommended? 30 minutes of activity 5 days a week.
Lower back pain affects what percentage of adults? 80%
How many ACL injuries occur annually and what is the most common age range? 80,000 to 100,000 annually and between the ages 15 and 25.
Most traditional training programs do not emphasize what? Multiplanar movements, full muscle action, and a proprioceptively enriched enviroment.
What does the Stabilization level do?(Phase 1) Gets the body and joints ready, helps flexibility, posture, and CDV health.
What are the Strength levels?(Phases 2,3,4) 2:Strength Endurance(lift weights at steady pace) 3:Hypertrophy(Muscle Mass) 4:Maximal Strength(heavier loads, rep max)
What does the Power Level do?(Phase 5) Emphasizes on increasing rate of force production and enhancing speed strength.
What is the OPT model? A training program that improves biomotor abilities,+ high lvls of functional strength, NM efficiency, and dynamic flexibility.
