What are normal values for hemoglobin? Male: 14-18 g/dl. Female: 12-16 g/dl
What are normal values for hematocrit? M: 40 to 62% F: 37-47%
What is the hematocrit? The proportion by volume of RBCs in the blood.
What is the RBC count? Men: 4.8 to 6 million/cubic mm. Women: 4.1 to 5.5 million cells/cubic mm.
What are reticulocytes? Slightly immature RBCs.
What is the normal reticulocyte value? .5 to 2% of total RBC count.
What does a high reticulocyte count mean? Sickle cell anemia.
What is MCV? Mean corpuscular volume. In men, is 80 to 95. In women, is 80 to 100.
What is MCH? Mean corpuscular hemoglobin: the amount of hemoglobin in the average RBC. Calulated in picograms. 27-32 pg.
What is the normal percentage of Lymphocytes in a WBC? (white blood cell count). 20 to 40%
What is the normal percentage of eosinophils in a WBC? 1 to 3%
What is the normal value of platelets? Platelet count is the number of platelets in a volume of blood Range is 150,000 to 400,000 per cubic mm.
What is the normal value for neutrophils? Neutrophils are divided into segs (segmented, ie, fully mature) and bands (almost mature). Segs normal value is 40 to 60% of WBCs. Bands are 0 to 5% of WBCs.
What PO2 level indicates hypoxemia? < 80mm.
What PCO2 level indicates hypercarbia? > 45 mm.
What is a V/Q mismatch? Ventilation/perfusion mismatch. The ratio should be .8 to 1.2.
What conditions does hypoventilation cause? Hypoxemia, hypercarbia
What does a low V/Q ratio indicate? Ventilation problem.
What does a high V/Q ration indicate? Perfusion problem.
