Important Supreme Court Cases

QuestionAnswer
Said the Supreme Court had the right to review all laws made by Congress; established the idea of judical review. Marbury v. Madison (1803)
Worcester v. Georgia Cherokee Nation sued Georgia to keep their land and won, but was removed by President Jackson anyway.
McCulloch v. maryland Stated a state could not tax a national bank; increased the power of the national government.
Gibbons v. Ogden Stated the federal government had the power to regulate trade between the states.
Dred Scott v. Sanford Stated African Americans were not citizens of the U.S. They were considered property.
