women | not allowed to vote, they worked as caretakers, house-workers and homemakers and had few opportunities for getting an education |
free African Americans | discriminated against in many ways, including not being allowed to vote, they were able to own land and had economic freedom so they could work for pay and decide how to use their money |
indentured servants | men and women unable to pay for passage to the colonies who agreed to work without pay for a person who paid for their passage - were free at the end of their contract |
enslaved African Americans | captured in Africa, sold to slave traders, then shipped to the colonies where they were sold into slavery and where their children were born into slavery - were owned as property for life without any rights |
