Dental Hygiene Diagnosis

QuestionAnswer
Diagnosis a statement that identifies the existence of a condition from its signs and symptoms within our area of expertise.
DHDx "formal" statement of the RDH's decision regarding the actual or potential problems of a patient that is amendable to treatment through the dental hygiene process of care.
DDx identifies a specific illness
DHDx identifes an actural or potential response to the illness
Steps in processing the data Use of critical thinking skills Classifying data into categories Interpreting Validating
During assessment what are we as dental hygienist doing? identify certain characteristics or findings as being perhaps representative of a disease state
What is the two-step process? development of diagnostic statements analyses or synthesize of data
How do we formulate the DHDx? “condition/problem” “related to” “etiologic or contributing factor”
What are the guidelines for writing the DHDx? diagnosis dental hygiene diagnosis Consists of 2 part statement “related to” contributing factor Write in legally advisable terms Write without value judgments Avoid reversing statements Contributing factors that can be changed by dental hygiene
What does the dental hygiene diagnosis guide? planning and implementation that is the bridge between assessment and our actual treatment.
