Important key facts

Freedman's Bureau It was directed to feeding and clothing war refugees in the South using surplus army supplies. It helped formerly enslaved people find work on plantations and negotiated labor contracts with planters.
13th Amendment Banning slavery in the United states.
Black Codes laws passed in the South just after the Civil War aimed at controlling freedment and enabling plantation owners to exploit African American workers.
Civil Rights Act of 1866 gave citizenship to everyone born in U.S.
Reconstruction Acts of 1867 Divided the South into military Districts to make sure All U.S. laws were followed.
14th Amendment Amendment granted citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States and declared that no state could deprive any person of life, liberty, or property "without due process of law."
15th Amendment Amendment declared that the right to vote "shall not be denied..on account of race, colore, or previous condition of servitude."
Civil Rights Act of 1875 All people are guaranteed equal treatment in public accomodations.
sharecroppers farmer who works land for an owner who provides equipment and seed and recieves a share of crop.
Compromise of 1877 official end of reconstruction ending military rule in south.
Lincoln's republican party Members of the former Confederate government, officers of teh Confederate army, and former federal judges, members of Congress, and military officers who had left their posts to help the Confederacy would not receive amnesty.
Johnson's republican party Amnesty for those taking an oath of loyalty to the U.S. Rquired states to ratify the 13th amendment abolishing slavery.
Congressional Plan passed the 14th amentment; divided the South into 5 military districts; new state constitutions required to guarantee voting rights; employed african americans in governement and supported their education.
