Type I: insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) insulin producing cells of the pancreas are destroyed, 3%-5% have this type, occur at any age, the peak is at 20 yrs.
Polydipsia excessive thirst and intake of fluid
Polyuria Excessive urination
Polyphagia Excessive appetite
Hypoglycemia Low blood sugar
Severe Hypoglycemia insulin shock
Brittle diabetes uncontrolled blood glucose levels
Insulin shock life threatening medical emergency, can be too little or too much sugar. Initial tx is introducing sugar into the blood stream.
mucormycosis a rare oral fungal infection that affects the palate and maxillary sinuses
Type 2: non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) insulin resistance, 97% of diabetics have this type, gradual onset, occurs in pt.s 35 to 40 yrs.

What does the endocrine system consist of? group of integrated glands and cells that secrete hormones. the amount of hormones circulating in blood triggers factors that contol production.
How may endocrine disease occur? too much or too little hormone is produced, gland dysfunction, a problem with hormone control and production
