Patrick Henry | He persuaded the Virginia House of Burgesses to take action against the Stamp Act. It passed a resolution stating that it had "the only and sole exclusive right and power to lay taxes" on its citizens. |

The Sugar Act | This act lowered the tax on imported molasses. The British was hoping that this would stop the smuggling of goods, and it let officers seize goods from smugglers without going to court. |
The Townshend Acts | This tax applied only to imported goods such as glass, tea, and paper with the tax being paid at point of entry into the colonies. |
Daughters of Liberty | They encouraged people to wear homemade fabrics and make their own goods. |
