soccer | a game played by two teams of eleven players with a round ball that may not be touched with the hands or arms during play except by the goalkeepers. The object of the game is to score goals by kicking or heading the ball into the opponents' goal. |
basketball | a game played between two teams of five players in which goals are scored by throwing a ball through a netted hoop fixed above each end of the court. |
tennis | a game in which two or four players strike a ball with rackets over a net stretched across a court. The usual form (originally called lawn tennis ) is played with a felt-covered hollow rubber ball on a grass, clay, or artificial surface. |
table tennis | an indoor game based on tennis, played with small paddles and a ball bounced on a table divided by a net. |
american football | a team game similar to rugby, with 11 players on each side. Forward passing is allowed and planned strategies and formations for play are decided during the course of the game |
hockey | a game resembling ice hockey that is played on an open field; two opposing teams use curved sticks try to drive a ball into the opponents' net |
vallyball | a game for two teams, usually of six players, in which a large ball is hit by hand over a high net, the aim being to score points by making the ball reach the ground on the opponent's side of the court. |
baseball | a ball game played between two teams of nine on a field with a diamond-shaped circuit of four bases. It is played chiefly in the US, Canada, Latin America, and East Asia. |
