How many lobes are present on the max. first molar? 4-5 lobes
How many cusps are present on the max. first molar? 4-5 cusps 2 B;2L- 1L being afunctional
What is the largest crown in the dentition? Max. First Molar
Where is the buccal height of contour? cervical 1/3
Where is the lingual height of contour? middle 1/3
What root is the longest on the max. first molar? Lingual root
The smallest, non functional cusp, that is not always present on the max. first molar? Cusp of Carabelli
How many pulp horns are on the max. first molar? One for each major cusp.
How many pulp canals are present in the max. first molar? Three- one for each of the three roots.
Why might the DB cusp of the max. first molar have increased supragingival tooth deposits? Because it is opposite the parotid salivary gland
When does the max. second molar erupt? 12-13 years
When does the root complete on the max. second molar? 14-16 years
How many lobes are present on the max. second molar? 4 lobes
How many cusps are present on the max. second molar? 4 cusps. 2 buccal; 2 lingual
What is the largest root on the max. second molar? Lingual.
How many roots are present on the max. second molar? 2 buccal; 1 lingual.
Where is the height of contour for the buccal? cervical 1/3
Where is the height of contour for the lingual? middle 1/3
How many pulp canals does the max. second molar have? 3 main pulp canals- one/root
How many pulp horns are present on the max. second molar? Four pulp horns. MB, DB, ML, DL
What are the possible crown outlines? Rhomboidal and heart shape
When does the max. third molar erupt? 17-21 years
When does the root complete on the max. third molar? 18-25 years
How many lobes are present on the max. third molar? 4 lobes=4 cusps
Where is the height of contour on max. third molar? buccal- cervical 1/3 lingual-middle 1/3
How many pulp canals CAN be present on the max. third molar? three if there is three roots; 4 if there is 4 roots; 1 if the roots are fused.
Clinical considerations of the max. molars? Possible penetration into the maxillary sinus; deep lingual pits; Mulberry Molars; Concrescence; Anodontia; microdontia; dentigerous cysts on impacted third molars
When does the mand. first molar erupt? 6-7 years
When does the root complete on the mand. first molar erupt? 9-10 years
How many lobes are present on the mand. first molar? 5 lobes=5 cusps
What cusps are present on the mand. first molar? 3 buccal; 2 lingual
How many pulp canals are present in the mand. first molar mesial root? two.
Where is the height of contour on the buccal side of the mand. first molar? cervical 1/3
Where is the height of contour on the lingual side of the mand. first molar? middle 1/3
How many pulp canals and horns are present on the mand. first molar? 3 pulp canals; 5 pulp horns
How many functional cusps are present on the mand. first molar? 5 cusps.
When does the mand. second molar erupt? 11-12 years
When does the root complete on the mand. second molar? 14-15 years

Where is the height of contour on the lingual side of the mand. second molar? middle 1/3
What are mulberry molars? developmental disturbance resulting from congenital syphilis; enamel nodules on occlusal surface.
Multiple roots give molars a decreased/increased periodontal disease increased
Why are molars lost to periodontal disease more than single rooted teeth? because of the presence of furcations
Long root trunks are more found more on the first molar or second? Second Molar
Molar furcations are too narrow for access by instruments resulting in? Prognosis to see if periodontally involved.
When does the mand. third molar erupt? 17-21 years
When does the mand. third molar roots complete? 18-25 years
How many lobes and cusps are present on the mand. third molar? 4 lobes and 4 cusps.

Where is the height of contour on the lingual side of the mand. third molar? Middle 1/3
Enamel Pearl Deposits of enamel to the level on the CEJ and extend into the root furcations areas- commonly found on the 2nd molars.
