LPN/LVN | A License Practical Nurse is a nurse who has completed a 1 year nursing program and has passed a licensing test;called License Vocational Nurse (LVN) in some states. |
NA | Nursing Assistant is a person who gives basic nursing care under the supervision of a license nurse. |
Nursing Home | Nursing center or nursing facility |
Nursing Team | RN's, LPN's/LVN's, and NA's |
RN | Registered Nurse who has completed a 2-, 3-, or 4-year nursing program and has passed a licensing test |
SNF | Skilled Nursing Facility is a nursing center that provides complex care for persons with severe health problems |
DON | Director of Nursing is an RN and is responsible for the entire nursing staff and care given |
Abuse | The intentional mistreatment or harm of another person |
Assault | Intentionally attempting or threatening to touch a person's body without the person's consent |
Battery | Touching a person's body without his or her consent |
Defamation | Injuring a person's name and reputation by making false statements to a third person |
Ethics | Knowledge of what is right conduct and wrong conduct |
False Imprisonment | Unlawful restraint or restriction of a person's freedom of movement |
Invasion of Privacy | When a person's name, picture, or private affairs are exposed or made public without consent |
Libel | Making false statements in print, writing, or through pictures or drawings |
Malpractice | Negligence by professional person |
Neglect | Failure to provide the person with goods or services needed to avoid physical harm, mental anguish, or mental illness |
Negligence | An unintentional wrong in which a person did not act in a reasonable and careful manner and caused harm to a person or property |
Slander | Making false statements orally |
Work Ethics | Behavior in the workplace |
Comprehensive Care Plan | A written guide giving direction for the resident's care (required by OBRA) |
Nursing Care Plan | A written guide about the person's care |
Objective Data | Information that is seen, heard, felt, or smelled;signs. Example: You can feel a pulse, you can see urine. You cannot see pain, fear, or nausea |
Subjective Data | Things a person tells you about that you cannot observe through your senses;symptoms |
