What is cranial nerve three, four, and six and how are they assessed? | Eyelid elevation, motor movement of eyes- have patient look down, up, side to side, and in. Test pupil reaction with pen light. |
What is cranial nerve five and how is it assessed? | Chewing, facial and mouth sensation- touch patients face with sharp and soft objects while eyes are closed; have patient open mouth and try to shut jaw; touch eye and both eyes should blink |
What is cranial nerve seven and how is it assessed? | facial expression, taste, eyelid and lip closure- ask patient to smile, squint, and raise eyebrows |
What is cranial nerve eight and how is it assessed? | hearing, equilibrium- whisper test; tuning fork; ticking watch |
What is cranial nerve nine and how is it assessed? | gagging and swallowing- assess gag and swallowing |
What is cranial nerve ten and how is it assessed? | gagging and swallowing, speech- assess vocal quality |
What is cranial nerve eleven and how is it assessed? | shoulder movement and head rotation- have patient shrug shoulders and turn head from side to side |
What is cranial nerve twelve and how is it assessed? | tongue movement- have patient stick out tongue and move it internally from cheek to cheek |
