Motion
accel., speed, direction
Term | Definition |
---|---|
motion | an object is in motion when its distance from another object is changing |
reference point | a place or object used for comparison to determine if something is in motion |
SI unit for distance | meter |
average speed (equation) | total distance traveled divided by total time |
instantaneous speed | rate at which an object is moving at that point in time |
velocity | speed of an object in a given direction |
slope | the "steepness" of a line |
acceleration | the rate at which velocity changes refers to increasing speed, decreasing speed, or changing direction |
force | a push or a pull |
newton | the SI units used for force (N) |
net force | all of the forces acting on an object at one time |
unbalanced forces | can cause an object to start, stop, or change direction |
balanced forces | equal forces acting in opposite directions |
line graph | used to show motion of objects |
