MESOAMERICA | Meso comes from the Greek word for “middle”. The region includes lands stretching from Valley of Mexico to Costa RIca in Central America |
SOUTH AMERICA | One of the 7 continents. Located South of North America |
OLMEC | Started the FIRST complex civilizations around 1500 BCE. Present day Vera Cruz, Mexico. Lasted about 800 years. |
MAYA | Built a civilization in the rainforests of the Yucatan Peninsula and used their central location, southern Mexico and Central America , to trade with canoes. |
INCA | Civilization built in the Andes Mountain ranges of present day Peru. Built the biggest Empire in the ancient Americas. |
AZTEC | Warlike nomads arrived in the Valley of Mexico in 1250 ACE and built their own kingdom. The king was the top of the Aztec empire and claimed that they are descendants of gods. |

TEOTIHUACAN | One of the first planned cities built by the maybe the the Toltec. No one is quite sure. it is know as “Place of the Gods” |
TENOCHTITLAN | Aztec city, "Place of Prickly Pear Cactus”, was a city-state on an island in Lake Texcoco in the Valley of Mexico. Founded in 1325, it became the seat of the growing Aztec Empire in the 15th century, until it was captured by the Spanish in 1521. |
HONDURAS | was home to several important Mesoamerican cultures, most notably the Maya |
YUCATAN PENINSULA | Located in MesoAmerica. Body of land surrounded by water on three sides. |
