diaphysis the shaft of a long bone
epiphysis the end of a long bone
ligament a band of fibrous connective tissue connection tissue connecting bones, cartilages, and other structures and serving for support or for attachment of fascia or muscles

osteology the study of bones
periosteum the membrane that covers all long bones
process a prominence or projection of a bone
skeletal system the system of the body involving the bones, joints, and their attachments
Red Bone Marrow found in cancellous tissue produces blood cells and hemoglobin
Yellow Bone Marrow Found in medullary canal contains mostly fat cells, few or no blood cells Does not play a part in blood production
Cancellous bone tissue (soft or spongy bone) More Porous, Marrow can be stored here, found inside compact bone, more light weight, blood vessels and nerves pass throughout this tissue

yellow marrow fat-filled marrow
condyle a rounded projection that enters into formation of a joint
head a rounded projection beyond a narrow neckline portion
tubercle a small, rounded projection
tuberosity a large, rounded projection
trochanter a very large process
spinous process or spine a sharp projection
crest a ridge
foramen a hole
meatus a tube-shaped opening
fossa a hollow or depression
sinus a cavity or spongelike space in a bone which is mucous-lined and filled with air spaces
