Misplaced Modifier A word, phrase, or clause that is improperly separated from the word it modifies (Describes)
Dangling Modifier A phrase or clause that does not have a word in the sentence to modify (ItÅ› missing!)
Puncuation What EVERY sentence needs, whether it be a comma, period, colon, exclamation mark quotation mark, question mark, or combination of these
Coordinate Adjectives two adjectives in a row that modify a noun and usually need a comma between them (It was a bright, sunny day.)
Redundancy A word or phrase that repeats something else and is unnecessary
Context the words or phrases surrounding another word or phrase, helpng to give clear meaning
Root the foundation of a word, usually from the Greek or Latin origins
Allusion An indirect reference to something else, usually in literature (:He was a real scrooge"is an allusion to Ebeneezer Scrooge from Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol.)
Personification When a writer describes an object as a person (The ree sighed in the afternoon breeze)
Analogy A comparison of two things that are somehow alike or different (JUst like soldiers use weapons, writers use pens) This could also be written as SOLDIERS:WEAPONS::WRITERS:PENS and read Soldiers are to weapons as writers are to pens.
Conotation an implied meaning that the author intends, which may differ from literal or dictionary meaning of the word.
Denotation the exact dictionary definition of the word
