leukocytes | white blood cells that fight infection |
thrombocytes | parts of cells in the blood that seal small leaks in walls of blood vessels |
endocardium | innermost layers of the heart, lining |
myocardium | middle layer of heart, full of muscles |
pericardium | outermost layer of the heart |
atria | upper heart chambers |
ventricles | lower heart chambers |
cardiac cycle | series of events to make heart pump blood through the body |
atherosclerosis | common vascular disease |
varicose veins | enlarged veins you can see through the skin |
angina pectoris | acute chest pain |
MI myocardial infarction | heart attack |
ischemia | not enough blood supply |
infarction | death of tissue |
thrombi | stationary blood clots |
embolus | moving blood clot |
hemoglobin | protein in red blood cells that caries oxygen to the tissues |
thrombocytes | platelets in the blood responsible for clotting |
coagulation | clotting of the blood |
hemostasis | stopping blood loss |
arterioles | smallest of the arteries |
capillary bed | network of capillaries |
venules | tiniest of veins |
